What Is Microsoft Entra ID?

Who Uses Microsoft Entra ID?

Microsoft Entra ID provides different benefits to members of an organization based on their role:

IT admins use Microsoft Entra ID to control access to apps and app resources, based on business requirements. As an IT admin, you can use Microsoft Entra ID to require multifactor authentication when accessing important organizational resources. Lastly, Microsoft Entra ID gives you powerful tools to automatically help protect user identities and credentials.

App developers can use Microsoft Entra ID as a standards-based authentication provider that helps them add single sign-on (SSO) to apps that works with a user's existing credentials.

Microsoft 365, Office 365, Azure, or Dynamics CRM Online subscribers already use Microsoft Entra ID as every Microsoft 365, Office 365, Azure, and Dynamics CRM Online tenant is automatically a Microsoft Entra tenant.

Terminology

To better understand Microsoft Entra ID and its documentation, let’s review the following terms.

Identity: Anything that can get authenticated. An identity can be a user with a username and password. Identities also include applications or other servers, devices, resource that might require authentication through secret keys or certificates.

Account: An identity that has data associated with it. You can’t have an account without an identity.

Account Administrator: This classic subscription administrator role is conceptually the billing owner of a subscription. This role enables you to manage all subscriptions in an account.

Owner: This role helps you manage all Azure resources, including access.

Microsoft Entra Global Administrator: This administrator role is automatically assigned to whomever created the Microsoft Entra tenant.

What is the Microsoft Entra admin center?

The Microsoft Entra admin center is a web-based portal designed for managing user identities and access controls across multicloud environments. It provides a unified administrative experience, allowing organizations to configure and manage their Microsoft Entra solutions in a centralized location.

Key features include:

Identity Management: Manage user identities, groups, and roles.

Access Controls: Configure and enforce access policies.

Device Management: Oversee device identities and compliance.

Integration: Seamlessly integrates with other Microsoft services and third-party applications.

HOW TO ACCESS THE MICROSOFT ENTRA ADMIN PORTAL

There two ways to access the Microsoft Entra Admin portal.

1. From the M365 Admin center. 2. Your browser.

To access the Microsoft Entra id center from M365 admin center.

Login to the M365 admin center and scroll to Identity and select. It will redirect you to input your login details.

To access the Microsoft Entra admin center from your browser, simply type entra.microsoft.com on your search bar.

Step1: Accessing Microsoft Entra Admin portal from M365 Admin portal

a. Sign in to your M365 Admin Center

b. Scroll down to Identity and click on it. You will be redirected to authenticate with your username and password. Once that is done you are signed into the Entra admin center.

Step2. The other why to access the Entra admin center is to simply search for Entra.microsoft.com in your browser. Authenticate with your username and password and you are signed in.
